Many are those who’ve tried to, once and for all, label Rammstein’s music, and now, twenty years on, it’s still up for debate: Tanzmetall, Post-Industrial, pop, German Hardcore Bossanova. But is it possible to define this particular kind of noise into a single concept? And is it really necessary?
As Paul Landers once said to New York’s Swing magazine with very special sense of irony: “We are always astonished that people think we are a metal band, when, in reality, we are desperately trying to make hip-hop! … Rammstein ist Rammstein.”
